Professional fly tyer and fly designer, Selene of Maine, will be sharing the evolution of some of her flies as well as a peak into her design process with clients. Learn why some flies “catch on” and some don’t.
Selene has been tying professionally for nearly 30 years, long enough to have read books when she began tying that are now considered classics that she sells in her fly shop in Gardiner, Maine.

BRUNSWICK, ME, January 2024 – Maine’s rich tradition of trout flies and the latest innovations in
creating artificial lures for catching trout and salmon will be explored by awarding-winning master fly-tyer Selene of Maine at the January gathering of the Merrymeeting Bay Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
Members and the public are invited to attend the free Merrymeeting Bay monthly meeting of this national cold-water conservation organization as we gather sportspeople and conservationists on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Joshua’s Restaurant, 123 Maine Street, Brunswick. Social hour begins at 6:00 pm, the presentation starts at 7:00 pm. The event is free; dinner and drinks can be purchased.
Selene is proprietor of Selene’s Fly Shop in Gardiner, is winner of the North East Fly-Tying Competition, has appeared as a featured fly-tyer at the American Museum of Fly Fishing in Vermont, and has been the focus of numerous articles and accolades. She will demonstrate how to tie a fly in-hand without the aid of a vice, and discuss favorite flies, new flies, and how to fish them.
Meetings are held at Joshua’s on the third Tuesday of each month, September through May.
